ALARA now offers Thyroid Uptake Monitoring Service for Users of I-125 & I-131

Nov 4th, 2008 - ALARA Consultants, recently participated in Health Canada’s “The Canadian National Calibration Reference Centre (NCRC) for in-Vivo Monitoring: The 2008 Thyroid Intercomparison” program. The program involves measuring Health Canada supplied “known” and “unknown” amounts of simulated I-125 and I-131 in a phantom and reporting both sets of measurements to Health Canada. Acceptable reportable bias of the “unknown” amounts is -25% - +50%. As a result of our counting equipment, methodology and procedure our reported bias ranged from – 5.2 % to + 0.6%.

ALARA Consultants is now offering a calibrated thyroid uptake monitoring and screening service to radioiodine users on a “regular”, “as needed” or “emergency” basis. This service will give your employees peace of mind as our calibrated equipment and approved measurement procedure has a minimum detectable activity (MDA) of 137 Bq and 148 Bq for I-125 and for I-131respectively which is well below the acceptable MDA of 1000 Bq. We can also provide advice on appropriate thyroid monitoring equipment to purchase and assist in setting up your thyroid screening program that complies with CNSC license conditions and regulatory requirements.
